roleModel of the Week: Alexa Lee

Interview

Alexa Lee: Wilhelmina Model, Wife, Mom, Vegetarian, & Personal Trainer

Obviously, you are more than a model. If asked your job title, what would you say and how would you describe yourself?

Wilhelmina Model and Actress

Height: 5'9

Instagram: alexaleeny

Hometown: Cleveland, Ohio

How did you get into the modeling world?

I went to get my prom dress from a store called Henris Cloud 9 and they asked me to shoot their nationwide magazine. I shot for them for 5 years and it helped me build the skill, talent and confidence in front of the camera in order to make my way to the Big Apple.

What or who inspired you to become a Model?

My mom has definitely been my #1 inspiration for modeling and acting. Whenever we would pass billboards or see different clothing catalogs she would always say, "You can do that"! My mom also modeled growing up and it's been pretty cool to follow in her footsteps. She is my rock and keeps me focused on the path ahead.

What keeps you in shape and healthy?

Well of course I llooovvee working out since I specialize in fitness modeling with Wilhelmina but I am also a vegetarian. I truly believe that abs are made in the kitchen and that so much of how you appear physically depends on what you eat, not necessarily how hard you go in the gym.

What is your work out routine?

Ever since I had my baby I have had to depend a lot on doing body weight exercises because I don't always have time to hit the gym. I love to run so I usually start out with a good 30-40 min run with my two dogs and then get creative inside for my toning exercises. One thing I want to add to my routine in 2017 is YOGA!

What are your favorite foods to eat?

I love to eat Eggplant Parmesan, SALADS, chunky vegetarian soup, literally any vegetable in the world.

Since becoming a mom, how has your life changed?

Well, I would say that every single aspect of my life has changed 100%. One of the biggest changes I noticed is my drive to be the best I can as a mom, wife and of course in my career. I want to be the best role model I can for my little girl and give her a wonderful childhood.

As a Model and a Mom, we know every day is different, describe your favorite day...

My favorite days are when I get to spend time with my baby and be able to continue to create in front of the camera. I am very lucky that my mom has been able to travel with me and my baby when I have jobs so I don't have to be away from her for too long of a time. I had my first job at 2 months postpartum and leaving my baby overnight was just not an option at that point for me... those are absolutely my favorite days!

What's your favorite modeling experience?

My favorite modeling experience is shooting for the cover of Runner's World. I have been a runner my whole life and Runner's World was probably the only magazine I ever picked up as a teen and I was very humbled to be chosen to shoot the cover.

Have you always led a healthy and active lifestyle? If not, what made you change. Was there a defining moment?

My mother has always raised us to be very health conscious and aware of how we treat our bodies. I became a vegetarian at the age of 4 and my mom told me that I needed to eat ALL my vegetables if I wasn't going to eat meat. So I DID! As I grew older I spent more time researching and I still do... there are always new things to learn and different ways to maintain your health.

As a Model, Mom, and a Mentor, what advice do you have for new models starting in their career?

My advice would be to be patient. When making the move to the big city it can take time for things to fall into place, tower the right agency and for that matter, the right AGENT. I think it's also very important to get with an agent who shares your vision. It doesn't matter if it's a top agency or boutique… that one person is in control of your career so you need to be on the same page as far as future goals. Don't settle, and keep hitting the pavement! Hustle hard!
